I saw this post floating on Facebook and it took me a while to sink in that people can even think like this..!! First thing that came to my mind was “How ridiculous is that?” Does all a baby really need is an aanchal? Does it mean that woman wearing jeans can’t sooth her child or bring him/her up in best possible way? And how about that extra sum of money that some of those jeans wearing women bring home that definitely help in bringing up the child in a better way?
But then after a while I realized that we live in country where females are seen as torch bearers of so called Indian Traditions & what most of the Indian Population learn from our traditions is not to respect women but to close them in a circle with everyone pointing fingers at. We live in a country where unfortunate incidents like 16th December can happen easily and where character of a 13 year old can be assassinated without any evidence. We live in a country where saving yourself from being eve-teased/raped is an onus on you by not wearing revealing clothes. No wonder people can think like this…!!
Now that I am expecting a baby, it really scares me how will “She” (if it is a baby girl) survive in such a scenario irrespective of the most comfortable cocoon we could ever be able to provide her. One day she has to come out of that cocoon to explore this world.
I can only hope to give her so much strength, to bring her up with a strong thought process and belief in herself so that she can fight and stand up against such odds. I am sure my husband will support me the most.
While closing this post, this is my answer to the image above considering that Majbooti i.e. Strength is considered as one of the most desirable feature in men.
Good thoughts! but i would add the last image( i know you took it from somewhere and are not your thoughts) is as illogical as maa ka aanchal.
Strength of character and mind is what a man needs to raise a child. We do not need brutes to help us raise our kids 🙂
