Ingredients
- 300 gm – Channa dal (yellow gram)
- 300 gm – Jaggery or sugar
- 1 tsp – Cardamom powder
- 1/2 grated Nutmeg (Jaiphal)
- Some saffron stands
- 150 gm –All purpose flour (maida)
- 100 gm – plain flour
- Salt to taste
- Pure Ghee
- Warm water
How to make Puran Poli
- Wash the dal and boil dal in plenty of water for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Drain the excess water and add mashed jiggery or sugar well with dal.
- Cook the mixture in a heavy saucepan while stirring continuously until the mixture becomes thick into a soft ball
- Add grated nutmeg, cardamom powder and saffron in the mixture.
- Keep it aside to cool.
- Knead flour with 1 tbsp ghee and salt adding enough water, to a soft dough.
- Cover the dough with muslin cloth and keep aside for an hour.
- Take a small ball of dough and roll into a thick small chapatti.
- Put the mixture as a filling in centre, cover and seal the edges.
- Reroll it gently and bake on a non stick tawa till golden brown on both side adding a little ghee around..
- Serve hot and apply a tsp of pure ghee on it before serving.
